... Red flag warning in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 6 PM EST this evening...
... Fire Weather Watch in effect Thursday afternoon...
Northwest winds have transported a much drier airmass down the Florida Peninsula into South Florida. Today as high pressure builds into the region winds are also expected to remain elevated with winds across coastal sections of South Florida in the 13 to 17 mph range with slightly lower values farther inland. Relative humidity values will likely fall to or below 35 percent for 4 or more hours. The ridge of high pressure will shift east through Thursday, but the dry airmass will remain in place through Thursday evening likely producing another dry day.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
