Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, July 24, 2008.

Hurricane Dolly is expected to decrease in strength on Thursday because it has made landfall over southern Texas. Although it will decrease to a tropical storm, expect greater than 39 mph sustained winds and heavy rains to continue over southern Texas as Dolly moves westward into Mexico. Flooding will be an issue for southern Texas because Dolly is moving slowly across Texas at 7 mph.

In the Northeast, a low pressure system will remain north of the region and will move slightly northeastward on Thursday. The system will produce a stationary front that will sag along the East Coast and into the Southeast. Expect showers and thunderstorms to pop up along the front, with a great possibility of producing severe weather. Flooding will be a concern for these areas while the system also has a history of producing hail, strong winds, heavy rain, and possible tornado development.

Another low pressure system has developed off the Eastern Rockies and will hover over the Northern and Central Plains on Thursday. Ahead of the system, showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop over the Upper and Mid-Mississippi Valleys.

The West Coast will remain dry with mostly sunny skies on Thursday. The Southwest could see a break in monsoon showers and thunderstorms because monsoon moisture is cut off from the region.



Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 35 degrees at Stanley, ID to a high of 118 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
