Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, May 18, 2008. The Caribbean Sea will remain virtually void of any significant shower and thunderstorm development Sunday. No tropical development is also expected. A few showers are possible over Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, but this activity will be far from widespread.

The suppression of any thunderstorm activity will be due to a large high pressure system that will stretch into the Caribbean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean.

The Bay of Campeche area of Mexico will experience some showers and thunderstorms, while isolated showers are likely in Central America from Honduras through Panama.

For South America, an intense storm will slam into the coast of Chile. This storm will have the capability of producing rain and high elevation snow in the southern half of the country. Precipitation will spill over the mountain range and into southern Argentina. Starkly cold air will also filter into southern Argentina.

Scattered showers will remain possible in Uruguay and southern Brazil due to a passing cold front.

Typical tropical moisture will produce showers and thunderstorms in the northern third of the continent.

Rio De Janeiro will rise into the upper 70s(F)/mid-20s(C), while Buenos Aires will see temperatures in the upper 60s(F)/lower 20s(C). Santiago, Chile will rise into the upper 50s(F)/mid-10s(C).
